Homecoming

What is homecoming?

During the period of late September and early October, American universities celebrate homecoming weekend. This American tradition is based on welcoming alumni  to the campus and community. Early homecoming celebrations centered around alumni soccer games.

Today homecoming still shares many characteristics with the celebrations of the past, but has broadened its scope. It is now an annual tradition where alumni, students, fans and community members come together to honor the traditions and history of a university.

Along with the soccer game, which remains the main event of this tradition, colleges host other alumni vs. alumni games, parades, luncheons, dinners and many more events that occur during homecoming weekend.

This event also serves as a meeting place for students from different generations to get to know each other. If you go or have gone to an American university, homecoming is a tradition not to be missed.
