Educational stages in the U.S.: everything you need to know

The educational system in the United States is divided into several stages, each with its own set of courses and educational objectives. Below is a description of each of these stages and how they correspond to the Spanish educational system.

1. Elementary School

  • Grade: Kindergarten (K) to grade 5
  • Approximate ages: 5 to 11 years old

Elementary education in the United States begins with Kindergarten and continues through 5th grade. During these years, students focus on core subjects such as reading, writing, math, science and social studies. These early educational stages are critical for establishing a solid foundation in basic academic skills.

Correspondence in Spain:

  • Children (5 years old)
  • 1st to 5th grade of Primary School

2. Middle School (Lower Secondary School)

  • Grade: 6th to 8th grade
  • Approximate ages: 11 to 14 years old
