Carles Antón Talaya wins his first tournament in the U.S.

Carles Antón Talaya (18), one of our Fall 2019 MAEstar, has already released his trophy cabinet in the USA.

Carles went to the USA on scholarship to combine his studies with tennis and, although he received many offers from different universities, he finally chose Troy University in Alabama.

He has barely been in the U.S. for a month and a half and has already made it clear to college tennis players that he is here to fight for everything. He proved that last week at the first tournament Troy tennis players attended to open the season. We are talking about the famous “Chattanooga Collegiate Court Clay Championship” tournament where 32 top college players compete in a 3-day event.

Carles beat Tom El Safadi 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, Giovani Pasini (UAB) 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10) in the second round and Jeremy Taylor (Mem) 1-6, 7-6, 10-6 in the semifinals, which took him to the final where he faced the local tennis player of the University of Tennessee Chattanooga Niklas Gerdes, ending the match with a set apiece and a tight tie-break where Carles gave everything and took the match (6-4, 2-6, 10-8).

His experience is proving to be unique and we know that he will soon add new titles to his university record.

Congratulations Carles!

The MAE team sends you a big hug.
