The <strong>NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)<\/strong> is an organization similar to the <strong>NCAA<\/strong>, but includes smaller, less competitive four-year colleges. The <strong>NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)<\/strong> is an <strong>organization that oversees college sports<\/strong> at the two-year community college level.<\/p>\n\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/maeducationusa.com\/en\/\">MAE<\/a> we wanted to bring you a complete guide for <strong>international student-athletes<\/strong> of everything you should know about these three organizations.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>The importance of understanding the differences in order to make an informed decision as an international student-athlete.<\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>International student-athlete<\/strong>s seeking to study and compete in <strong>sports in the United States<\/strong> should understand the differences between the <strong>NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA.<\/strong> These differences can affect their academic, athletic and financial goals.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association)<\/h3>\n\n<p>The <strong>NCAA<\/strong> was founded by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905 to regulate <strong>college sports in the United States<\/strong>. Its mission is &#8220;to promote the all-around development of <strong>student-athletes<\/strong> through athletic education, leadership and civic responsibility.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Divisions and levels of competition:<br\/><br\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The <strong>NCAA<\/strong> is divided into three <strong>sport divisions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Division I, Division II and Division III. Division I is the most competitive, followed by Division II and Division III.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Academic and athletic requirements:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>NCAA student-athletes<\/strong> must meet specific academic and athletic requirements to be eligible to compete:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Academic requirements vary by division and university.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Athletic requirements include a minimum number of standardized test scores, a minimum number of classes passed, and a minimum level of athletic ability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Advantages and disadvantages from the perspective of an <strong>international student-athlete<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Advantages:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Opportunities to compete at elite level<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to full <strong>sports scholarships<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wide range of <a href=\"https:\/\/maeducationusa.com\/en\/scholarship-to-study-in-the-united-states\/sports-scholarchips\/\">university options<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Disadvantages<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stricter academic and athletic requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Higher tuition and housing costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)<\/h3>\n\n<p>The <strong>NAIA<\/strong> was founded in 1937 to provide an alternative to the <strong>NCAA<\/strong> whose purpose is to integrate athletic life into the academic environment of these institutions. The <strong>level of competition in the NAIA<\/strong> is generally lower than in the <strong>NCAA<\/strong>. Its goal is to promote academic and athletic excellence at these 2-year colleges.<\/p>\n\n<p>They offer athletic opportunities to students from all over the world. International students can compete in a variety of sports, including basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball and track and field.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>NJCAA student-athletes<\/strong> may make a <strong>college transfer<\/strong> after completing two years of study and begin a third year at an <strong>NCAA or NAIA college.<\/strong> The transfer process can be competitive, but successful <strong>student-athletes<\/strong> increase their chances of being signed by teams at <strong>NCAA or NAIA universities.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Advantages of starting your athletic career at a <strong>community college:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Advantages:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lower tuition and housing costs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opportunities to improve academic and athletic skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased likelihood of <strong>athletic recruitment<\/strong> by a four-year university<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>As you can see, these three organizations offer different opportunities for <strong>international student-athletes<\/strong>. They should consider their academic and athletic goals when choosing the organization that is right for them.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>Tips for international student-athletes on how to make the best choice for their academic and athletic goals<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consider your academic goals. Ask yourself the questions, what is your primary academic goal? Do you want to obtain a degree in a specific field of study? Do you want to participate in <strong>research or fellowship programs?<\/strong> Do you want to <strong>transfer to a four-year university?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On the other hand, you should also consider your <strong>sporting objectives<\/strong> in terms of the level of competition you are looking for, whether you want to compete at a national or international level and above all, whether you want to obtain a sports scholarship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit the websites of the universities you are interested in or consult <a href=\"https:\/\/maeducationusa.com\/en\/mae-team\/\">MAE<\/a> for everything you need.
