{"id":11103,"date":"2019-11-28T12:13:49","date_gmt":"2019-11-28T12:13:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maeducationusa.com\/happy-thanksgiving\/"},"modified":"2019-11-28T12:13:49","modified_gmt":"2019-11-28T12:13:49","slug":"happy-thanksgiving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maeducationusa.com\/en\/happy-thanksgiving\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy Thanksgiving!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Every year, on the fourth Thursday of November, <strong>one of the most popular holidays in the United States<\/strong> is celebrated. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is the famous<strong>&#8220;<\/strong>Thanksgiving Day&#8221;. or as it is known in English<strong>&#8220;Thanksgiving<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This is a nationwide <strong>holiday<\/strong> where large family gatherings are organized with a delicious dinner featuring a stuffed turkey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This American holiday dates back to the <b>encounter between English settlers and a group of Wampanoag Indians in Plymouth in 1621<\/b>.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Europeans, who had arrived on American soil the previous year, endured a very harsh winter, with only half surviving. (Public domain)<\/p>\n<p>At<span style=\"color: #000000;\">  November 1621, after the colonists&#8217; first corn harvest proved successful, Governor William Bradford organized a feast of celebration and thanksgiving by inviting a group of Native American allies and it would become the first Thanksgiving Day in history, lasting up to three days.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This holiday would not be officially declared a <strong>national holiday<\/strong> until <strong>1863<\/strong> under <strong>President Lincoln<\/strong>. He declared that the fourth Thursday of the month of November would be celebrated annually as the<strong>&#8220;thanksgiving&#8221;<\/strong> holiday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>THANKSGIVING FUN FACTS:  <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">  People <strong>eat a light breakfast<\/strong> to enjoy all the food they have prepared for dinner. This is usually done earlier, around 5:00 pm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Americans are normally on vacation <strong>from Wednesday through Sunday<\/strong>. Some universities give their students the whole week off.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The main dish is a <strong>stuffed turkey<\/strong>. We call this &#8220;stuffing&#8221; a mixture of bread crumbs, fried onion, bacon, and all mixed in poultry broth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Families participate and do other activities such as <strong>watching a parade<\/strong>, <strong>running a 5k in costume<\/strong> or <strong>watching the NFL<\/strong>.  <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">  The most common dessert is <strong>pumpkin pie<\/strong> but some families also bake <strong>apple pies<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In recent years,<strong>&#8220;friendsgiving<\/strong>&#8221; has also been celebrated during this week. This one is celebrated in the same way but among friends, instead of family members.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is estimated that around <strong>280 million turkeys<\/strong> are cooked to celebrate this holiday.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The<strong>&#8220;turkey pardoning<\/strong>&#8221; tradition whereby the president pardons a turkey is celebrated on Wednesday.
